Social Media Threats and Safety

Dear Parents,

The Bound Brook School District is aware of anonymous threats of school shootings and bombings being made on TikTok and other social media platforms against all schools in the United States for this Friday, December 17th. Unfortunately, some of those threats of violence have been directed at our schools. The Bound Brook Police Department, in cooperation with the district, immediately investigated the threats, and the police determined that none were credible.

We know this may be concerning to you as parents, and we want to assure you that we take all threats, whether credible or not, extremely seriously. We are taking preventative measures to bolster safety around our buildings.

Social media is a powerful tool that can be used for good or bad. Please take this opportunity to talk to your child about the appropriate use of social media and the seriousness of making threats. Students who make threats could face possible suspension or expulsion, and possible legal consequences.

We also ask you to remain vigilant. If you see or hear anything, contact the Bound Brook Police Department at 732-356-0800 and alert your child’s school principal. Swift action is key to preventing any violence in our schools and disruptions to learning. We look forward to seeing students for instruction on Friday as scheduled. Our goal every single day is to ensure that Bound Brook is a safe place for our students and staff.

We ask all our students, staff, parents, and community members to help us by continuing to play a role in maintaining Bound Brook as a safe place.

Thank you for your attention and support.

Truly,

Daniel Gallagher, Ed.D. Superintendent of Schools
