Vladyk Peter Rudyy, a senior at Bound Brook High School, was recently honored by the Somerset County School Boards Association with the 2024 Unsung Hero Award. The award acknowledges Vladyk’s positive impact in the school community and beyond. 

“Vladyk embodies the spirit of an unsung hero, whose actions speak volumes despite his humility,” said BBHS Principal Ed Smith, who nominated Vladyk. “He deserves this honor for his extraordinary contributions and unwavering commitment to making a difference in the lives of others.”  

In collaboration with the New Jersey School Boards Association, the award recognizes a senior from each high school in Somerset County who is making outstanding contributions to their schools and communities. Vladyk was recognized at a ceremony in March. 

Vladyk has demonstrated remarkable resilience and compassion since Ukraine, his homeland, was invaded. He mobilized his family and community, spearheading efforts to collect donations for essential supplies, including medical equipment and ambulances, to support those affected by the conflict. 

Beyond his contributions to the humanitarian cause, Vladyk is an active member of numerous clubs and societies at BBHS. He dedicates his time as a volunteer tutoring, as well as with initiatives such as Interact, Blood Drive, Champion Schools, and Personal Wellness with Friends, in which students with socialization and adaptive needs are paired with neuro-typical students to promote skill-building during physical education class. Moreover, Vladyk’s involvement in the National Honor Society, Rho Kappa, and other honor societies underscores his commitment to academic excellence and service. 

Vladyk is interested in STEM subjects and aspires to work in the medical, engineering, or architectural fields. 

“Vlad exemplifies the type of talent, character, and goodwill that we strive to instill in all of our students,” said Dr. Alvin Freeman. “He has made our district tremendously proud.”
